Practice, Practice, Practice

I know you've heard it a thousand times before. But it's true -- hard work pays off. If you want to be good, you have to practice, practice, practice.

~ Ray Bradbury

The following video inspired me to write today. It makes several points that reflect what I have written in my book “One Habit At A Time”. For one - if you want to be successful at something, you must practice, over and over again, the actions it takes to succeed until these actions become habitual. The fool-proof, habit development method which I reveal in my book is designed specifically for the purpose of following through, repeatedly, with constructive action. In other words, this method ensures that you practice the habits you wish to develop. With that said, please watch the video now and see how it demonstrates the power of practice.

Here are some key points from the video:

Ingredient # 1- Practice, Practice, Practice

The more you practice something, the smoother it becomes to do. This applies to everything you do. Persistent hard work plays a bigger part than talent.

Ingredient # 2- A Great Coach

Who the coach or teacher is plays a huge part in success. A great coach knows how to breakdown the fundamentals into small parts so that the student can practice efficiently.

Ingredient # 3- Total Concentration

Total concentration is about doing the small things (which I like to call the fundamentals) over and over again. Furthermore, it involves making all the necessary adjustments (to whatever it is you are trying to perfect) along the way. You need to feel the frustration of failure and correct these failures in order to stress your brain and develop your skill set.

Conclusion

Now, there are a few ingredients missing here which I will not focus on today except for one that I feel is too important not to mention – passion. I believe a person should be passionate about what they are practicing to achieve or become. Without passion, actions can become too robotic and empty of human connection. Also, passion is what helps us persevere when we are faced with our most difficult obstacles. Regardless of what it is you wish to do or achieve, if you are very passionate about it, you will succeed as long as you…
