Use Your Intuition!

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”

~ Albert Einstein

What Einstein refers to as the intuitive and rational mind, I simply refer to as the spirit and mind respectively. Intuition originates from our spirit and rational (or logical) thinking comes from our mind. Both parts are necessary when making decisions, however, a lot of people are mind-dominant decision makers. In other words, they do not use their intuition. The mind-dominant decision maker constantly ignores their intuition (spirit’s guidance) and this commonly leads to trouble. How?

As I have often mentioned in my writings, in order to be holistically successful, you must fully integrate your body, mind and spirit. If you make all of your decisions based on rational thinking alone, you are bound to make the wrong decisions repeatedly. For example, let’s say you are faced with an extremely important decision about your career. You have 2 opportunities to choose from, one is to be a carpenter and the other, to be a lawyer. Your mind will guide you using rational thinking as follows…which opportunity pays more? Which one requires less laborious work? Which one is perceived by society as the greater vocation? For the rational mind, the lawyer career opportunity is the obvious choice. However, what if your intuition strongly disagrees with your mind? What if your heart’s desire or soul purpose is to be a carpenter? How will it affect you if you decide to become a lawyer?

Remember, when you are holistically successful, you make decisions that will benefit your whole being – body, mind and spirit. Therefore, in the case above, choosing to become a lawyer may be more rewarding financially, however you will struggle internally (heart) with your decision. The inner turmoil caused by this decision alone, can be very stressful on your wellbeing. This stress is often taken for granted for common health problems. For example, when someone goes to the doctor and complains about chest pain, they will rarely, if ever, be asked – Are you living with passion? Are you ignoring what your heart truly desires? Please understand, I am not saying that this is the only cause of health problems, but one that should not be ignored.

Therefore, any time you make a decision, especially an important one, ask yourself which choice is most beneficial for your body, mind and spirit. And don’t forget to…
